Nothin’ But NET!

1 Thought:

In the spirit of March Madness I was subliminally prompted to blog about something regarding a net I guess. The mind is a highly suggestible place.

Net I feel is most simply defined by what is left after the work has been done.

In basketball the practice has been put in, we’ve broken the ankles of the defense, pumped the brakes, and pulled up for a shot we have practiced a thousand plus times. The ball soars through the air and penetrates the hoop making that amazingly satisfying whip sound as it tears through the nylon and ultimately exits the bottom of the net. SCORE!!! Depending on proximity (or if your foot were on the line) the 2 to 3 points is the NET profit of all the prior work done.

Just like basketball in business a tremendous amount of work must be done to offset all the costs of doing business leaving us with hopefully NET Profits at the end of each month, quarter, and year. Net profits are how the better businesses determine whether the business is successful or if it is not.

So now that we are clear, at least on my definition of net profits, how do we better ensure our business, or our teams are assisting in making the business net profitable.

A few action items:

No

Extra

Time

Offensively the best way to drive a net profitable business is to have NO EXTRA TIME.

1. Allocate your time at work, for work. Are the scheduled meetings productive, are the lists we start our day off getting us closer to our objective? Are we saying YES too often to other peoples agendas? So much power in the word NO, as it’s really just a YES to what you know is important.

2. Are the colleagues you are spending time with high minded people with high vibration ideas or are they simply bringing you down to match their vibrations? Find others that match your energy and you’ll be far more productive.

3. David Allen’s book “Getting Things Done” sites the 2 minute rule. Any task that can be done in just a few minutes like a quick call, an email reply, etc don’t belong on to-do lists; they need to get done in real time. Don’t procrastinate just knock the small tasks out, don’t let small tasks take away from the big goals.

4. Elimination is often one of the hardest things to do; the reason why I listed this action last. Like I was suggesting in number #1 when I said to say NO to other peoples agendas is saying YES to your own its also necessary that you say NO to yourself when you have things come up that don’t serve the goal. You might miss out on lunches with friends and colleagues, you might miss out on getting some wanted sleep by coming in before every one else, but if your goal is BIG enough and means enough to you it will be worth it.

Promise you that if you take these 4 actions and apply to your day to day that you will build, or be part of a NET profitable business and life.

There is always more to do than you can do, and you can do only one thing at a time. The key is to feel as good about what you’re not doing as about what you are doing at the moment.

1 Question:

What High vibration blogs like this one should you be Subscribing to? What Low vibration people are taking time away from your goals? What can you stop putting on lists and complete this second so you can better focus on the big tasks?
