Should I Stay, Or Should I Go Now…When is Enough, Enough?

A young woman sitting at a desk with a laptop, looking thoughtful and slightly worried, surrounded by office supplies and papers.

1 Thought:

We’ve all been tired and felt overworked from time to time. We’ve all felt like a cast member in BIll Murray’s Groundhog Day Movie from time to time, same thing every day, week, and month…life on repeat and no end in sight.

There was a particular person who inspired me to write this post. This person is very dear to me, and they are currently facing a difficult crossroads in their career. If any of you can relate to this, please know that you are not alone.

If this resonates with you, what’s the plan? No plan isn’t an option by the way otherwise nothing will change.

Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired I think is the question?

Like I said no plan isn’t an option, so I’m suggesting you follow a few steps before taking one of two potential paths.

Path one is you stick and stay where you are and simply make things better.

– Understand your circle of influence and be the hardest worker in the building.

– Respect your team regardless of your differences.

– Listen and politely suggest the changes you see fit. Seek to understand the direction before objecting.

– Maybe the company isn’t the problem; maybe you just need a new role to reinvigorate you. Ask what else might be available.

Path two is you plan your exit so you can start your new adventure.

– Evaluate your skill sets….take the time and write it down.

– Circle, hi-lite, underline, or whatever the skills you possess that YOU actually enjoy. (I know I am good at a lot of things I do not enjoy)

– Based on your skill sets what roles and businesses value what YOU have to offer?

– Be certain. Don’t second guess your decision (be all in!!!!), and do not burn any bridges.

Making a career change isn’t something to take lightly, so be sure it is right for you. Grass isn’t always greener on the other side; they say it’s greener where you water it.

1 Quote:

” Your life doesn’t get better by chance, it gets better by change.”

– Jim Rohn

One of the original, and greats, within the motivational speaking world

1 Question:

Be sure you make an analytical decision; don’t be emotional. Are you working so you can live the life you want, or do you need your work to be your life and be fulfilling? Work can either be a means to an end, or for some your work is your end…what is it for you?

I suggest you figure it out before you stay, or decide to jump ship.

X-TRA – The Jim Rohn quote above I think is brilliant because it doesn’t suggest you stay where you are or leave; it simply suggests change. The change can be something you create where you are or a new environment might be exactly what you need.
