1 Thought:
I had a conversation today with someone quite a bit younger than me, which is getting easier and easier to find as I get older, about future work plans and goals.
I asked questions like “what are you interested in doing next”; shared I felt they could really do a lot more, and even gave a few suggestions during this casual conversation.
This young person had all the interest in the world in expanding into new areas which was awesome to hear. Very little makes me more excited than seeing people want to grow and expand. There was one major snag, and that was the illusion of security they felt they had with just an hourly/ salaried role, like they currently had.
Quoting this person…“I really need to have a steady paycheck”.
The roles I suggested, and felt they’d excel in, were low guarantee, or even zero guarantee and the income was mostly commissions. “Too risky” they told me despite the faith they had in themselves to do the role well, not to mention the interest, and enthusiasm they shared they had for the roles.
First of all, I shared with them that commission is a scary word for many people so don’t feel that you’re alone. I personally told them I always replaced the word commission with performance based income.
I reminded this person that they said they “knew” they would perform at a high level so not much to worry about there, right?.
Secondly, I revisited the fact they felt this type of pay was “risky” and they needed to know they had a paycheck. I in turn asked a question; if you performed poorly at your hourly role do you think you’d keep your job?
The point I was trying to make to this young, and upcoming person is that if you have interest, enthusiasm, and faith in your abilities take off the lid that salaries put on your income and break free and start to really earn.
This person I had this discussion with is in their young 20’s. Feeling very fortunate that I now have over 3000+ readers since starting this blog in February of this year, but there is no way for me to know the age groups that read and subscribe. That said, I do feel that there are several of us far older than 20 that still are scared to take the leap into new opportunities due to the illusion of security. The fear of change is a real road block for several of us. Is it time to really analyze our current situation?
Opportunities are only opportunities if you are bold enough to take them.
Take the Lid Off!

1 Question:
You can put a toe in the water and chase your passion in your spare time but if you are confident in yourself consider going all in. What are you passionate about doing?
Get clear and be bold!
